I follow a flexible diet and therefore I am always on the lookout for new food items which I can fit into my daily macro and calorie targets without sacrificing taste or enjoyment. All the products listed below are on my list of current go to snacks! I have a mega sweet tooth so anything to keep me away from devouring a whole bar of chocolate or tub of ice cream a day is a winner in my eyes! (Not that I am saying I never eat chocolate or ice cream, but I can’t fit them into my macros every day so have had to look for alternatives to keep me satisfied!)
Weight Watchers Layered Fromage Frais
These come as a pack of 4 in either a ‘Summer fruit’ or ‘Very Berry’ variety pack. I love all the flavours (as does my Mum!) but my absolute favourite would probably be the cherry one, hmmmm. I normally wouldn’t advise Weight watchers or similar companies products as although they usually advertise that they are low in fat, you find that this just means they have been pumped with sugar to ensure that they still taste good! However, these are great as they are only 50calories, but unlike most yoghurts which you find on the shelves which can be high in carbohydrates due to the sugar content, these each contain 5g of protein as well as 6g of carbs. They certainly curb any dessert cravings which I usually get after a meal!

Metcalfe’s Sweet ‘n Salt Skinny Popcorn
I never used to like salted popcorn, in fact I found the whole idea of it disgusting. Popcorn was mean to be covered in toffee (ala Butterkist, yummm) or at the very least a sprinkle of sugar. However, although I still don’t think I could consume a bag of only the salted stuff, the combination of sweet and salty definitely appeals to my palette now! I think this is mainly down to the huge variety of salted caramel products which seem to be everywhere at the moment. I love having a mini bag of this to snack on, as basically it seems like you are getting a lot of food for limited amount of calories! The fact that they are in smaller bags also stops the temptation to over eat which is highly likely if I were to buy the larger ‘sharing’ bags! I have been having the Metcalfe’s bags as they have been on offer recently at Morrisons, but most brands have similar macros if you check the nutritional values.

Hartley’s 10 cal Jelly Pots
Who doesn’t love jelly? Again I love having these at the end of a meal, usually mixed up with some greek yoghurt, rice cakes and berries as a dessert, but they are also great to have on their own. And for 10calories, you can’t really argue. They come in a variety of flavours with the simple Raspberry or Strawberry ones being my usual purchases.

Options Belgium Choc Coconut Hot Chocolate
I am always cold. I was certainly not made to withstand the weather here in the UK! So especially now it is coming back into autumn/winter time (insert sad face here) hot chocolate is making a return to my daily diet. I love the chocolate cocnut flavour one, it is actually quite hard and does have on the tub that it is a limited edition, but I managed to find this one in Poundstretcher. Normally I find powdered hot chocolate mixed with water doesn’t taste of anything, but the options ones all seem to taste great. I sometimes do add a splash of coconut milk or almond milk into them to make them a tad creamier though. Apart from the choc coconut one my other favourite would probably be the chocolate caramel one.

Getting an ample amount of protein can be hard when you are away from home and not able to prepare meals or have your usual sources at hand. Eating well whilst travelling can be difficult, especially when you are faced with a never ending amount of sweet treats or crisps etc at service stations or local shops. It is in these types of scenarios that I like to have a protein bar with me, it certainly isn’t something which I have every day. I love Quest bars as they simply taste amazing! I haven’t managed to try all the flavours yet, but the general consensus amongst the fitness community is that the ones with chunks in are the best, and they are actually even better when warmed up a little so they’re all soft and gooey! The macros on the whole range are all about the same, they also contain a high amount of dietary fibre. I normally pop one in my bag if I am going to be out of the house all day and don’t know when my next meal will be, they are a convenience if anything. My personal preference for flavours at the moment is either the double chocolate chunk or the chocolate chip cookie dough. One drawback is probably the cost; individually they tend to be around the £3 mark, which in comparison to a regular cereal bar or chocolate bar is expensive. I normally buy the boxes of 12 online for around £20 and make them last!

Grenade Carb Killa Caramel Chaos Bars
This is my other protein bar of choice, this one legitimately tastes like your regular chocolate bar, I promise! It almost has the same texture as a Mars Bar if I was to compare it to anything, a nougat type filling with some crispy pieces on top, a caramel layer and surrounded by chocolate…YUM. Everyone I have spoken to who has tried these loves them. Slightly more affordable than quest, usually priced at about £2 for an individual bar and you can pick up a box of 12 for around the £16 mark. They have just released a cookies and cream flavour one which I cannot wait to try!

Walls Big Bite Ice-Cream
I am an ice cream connoisseur; if I could only eat one food item for the rest of my life my answer is always ice cream. It is always the perfect moment to have an ice cream. I am not even particularly fussy on the flavour (Although if I were forced to pick then chocolate fudge brownie or mint choc chip would certainly be up there!) But unfortunately good quality ice cream contains quite a lot of fat and sugar, and it isn’t something I can eat everyday as much as I would like to…that was until I discovered this range from Walls. Yes, it may not taste as luxurious or creamy as your usual offenders of Ben and Jerrys or Haagen Daaz, but if you are craving that cold smooth taste then this is a winner in my eyes. It is almost mousse like in texture, and reminds me a bit of the filling of choc ices you used to get when I was younger. I have tried the chocolate and strawberry flavoured ones, but I believe there is also a cookies and cream tub and now a mint choc chip one available which I need to try and hunt down! They are also super cheap; I have never paid more than £1 per tub, a bargain.
