week 28 & 29 : what have I been learning about this week? Plus the trials and tribulations of a Personal Trainer/Entrepreneur in training

Right let me update you on what has been going on in Abi’s world…week 28 & 29…

SORRY SORRY SORRY

I am so sorry that I didn’t manage to get a post up last weekend. Everything just got on top of me and writing up this wasn’t at the top of my priority list!

As you can see I am actually now away on holiday and am writing this from my airbnb in Venice!

The last two weeks have just been a bit of a blur, with lots of clients getting ready for their own holidays, me trying to get things prepared before I go away, plus work on my own secret project. My anxiety levels were through the roof, and there were a couple of occasions where I just had to sit and do nothing as I just didn’t know where to start with anything. However, after speaking to mentors and a couple of other people, I came to realisation that what didn’t get done, just wouldn’t get done and that wouldn’t be the end of the world. Life would still go on. All I could do was my best.

I went to Leeds to see my friends from school and celebrate Charlie’s birthday, it was so lovely to see them and really did give me a welcome day off and chill out.

My sister went to Spain and surprised my parents which was so lovely of her and I was super jealous of all the photos they were sending me through! But I am so excited for my own adventure this summer, we have spent past couple of days in Venice, before heading to Slovenia, Croatia and then Montenegro. A little bit of a European road trip! I will be trying to blog quite a lot and get some youtube videos up so stay tuned!

In terms of trying to ‘stay on track’ whilst I am away; I have brought with me some resistance bands and a skipping rope as I am not sure how much access I will have  to gyms. This means it will more than likely be lots of bodyweight work and dare I say it even some running! But as I have mentioned previously, I live this lifestyle because I enjoy it. I love the feeling of being fit and healthy, it helps with my mindset and inner peace as well. So I know if I was to take 3 weeks off entirely then I would go completely doolally! If I don’t feel like exercising one day then I won’t, but I like to have the option. In terms of food, I will be sensible but you can bet your bottom dollar there will be plenty of ice creams happening!

Right, time to get on with the day! Speak next week!

Double whammy of what I have learnt in the past couple of weeks!! Weeks 28 & 29 coming up…

24th: Spar shop originated in the Netherlands.

25th: Stephen Perry patented his idea for the rubber band in 1845. The London businessman came up with the invention after Charles Goodyear introduced rubber to the world in 1839.

26th: G-rated family films earn more money than any other rated films; however, only 4% of Hollywood’s output is G-rated.

27th: Zythology is the study of beer and beer making.

28th: Contrary to popular belief, there are no wild tigers in Africa.

29th: Pearls dissolve in vinegar.

30th: The white part of an egg is called the albumen.

31st: There are 314 Ikea stores in 38 countries, 30 of which are franchises. IKEA is an acronym which stands for the founders initials and hometown (Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd)

1st: The busiest airport in the world is Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport with more than 106 million passengers in 2016. London Heathrow is only number 7.

2nd: In the summer heat, the iron in France’s Eiffel Tower expands, making the tower grow more than 6 inches.

3rd: There are 60,000 habitants of Venice, and 55,000 tourists descend on the place every day!

4th: Both “equinox” and “solstice” refer to the path of the sun throughout the year. During a solstice, the sun is either at its northernmost point (Tropic of Cancer) or it is at its southernmost point (Tropic of Capricorn). An equinox is either of the two days each year when the sun crosses the equator and both day and night are equally long.

5th: There are more than 400 bridges in Venice —but only four to five bridges span across the mighty Grand Canal.

week 27 : what have I been learning about this week? Plus the trials and tribulations of a Personal Trainer/Entrepreneur in training

Right let me update you on what has been going on in Abi’s world…week 27…

Some days and weeks you just get on a roll and every session which you deliver is great; this week was one of those. I think it is impossible to have perfect days/weeks all the time. The perfect session is not only dependent on me, but the mood of my clients, how much energy they have, injuries, what the weather is like, how busy the gym is…etc etc. But this week for some reason everybody was amazing and everything I had programmed just clicked into place! As long as you have more good weeks than bad weeks then I think everything is pretty sweet.

With not only myself gearing up for holidays but a number of my clients as well, I think the energy and commitment between all of us has increased some what. This is always the case when a goal which seemed so far away rapidly approaches.

I have been trying to get on top of work as well so that my final week isn’t too crazy with preparing client plans for whilst I am away and getting social media posts scheduled. A ton of work goes into these and sometimes I do find myself getting down when they don’t get the reaction I want or think they deserve. BUT I just have to keep showing up everyday and providing the best content I can, delivering the best value I can and I know that I should be making a difference to at least one person every day. That is my goal. If my message can help and reach just one person each and every day, then I am doing something right.

My training has gone well this week too. Managed to fit in my 4 strength training sessions, a conditioning circuit and then some cardio on top. Friday afternoons have become my ‘sweat session.’ I think I mentioned last week that I have been getting ideas from professionals who I respect and follow on Instagram, but this week I made my own workout up and it was brutal!

1000 rep workout —->  10 exercises —-> 100 reps each

Inverted Row
Press Ups
Mountain Climbers
KB Swings
Goblet Squats
Ball Slams
Hanging Crunches
Walking Lunges
Box Jumps
Rower (10m = 1 rep)

Give it a go if you are feeling up to it!

I have still been loving picked my vegetables out the garden and having them cooked up and on my plate within 10 minutes. They honestly do taste so much better than those which you get at the supermarket!

grow your own vegetables

My parents went away on Friday and I won’t see them now for 6 weeks as our holidays overlap. I don’t mind being at home by myself, but I do miss having my mum do my washing for me! 3 Changes of clothing a day = a lot of washing!

P.s I have only just realised that week 27 is now in the second half of the year 😳 What are your goals for the remaining six months of 2017? Can you get started on them today rather than putting things off until tomorrow? I bet you can.

pps I am also slightly concerned at how I am going to cope once Love Island has finished….

Okay so onto what I have learnt in week 27… (apart from the fact that John Lewis have amazing customer service!!)

17th: The biggest franchise in the world is 7-11 which was established in the USA.

18th: The biggest franchise in the UK is Subway with 2300 units.

19th: New research shows that T-Rex could only have ran at a max pace of 12mph due to its size and weight contrary to what we previously thought.

20th: Black Pepper is the most traded spice in the world.

21st: Oklahoma City is the city which has been hit by the most tornados, over 100 in totoal.

22nd: 20/20 vision is your visual acuity, or the sharpness of vision at 20 feet from an object. Having 20/60 vision means that you must be at 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 60 feet.

23rd: Salt and sodium are not the same thing. “Salt” is the term commonly used for sodium chloride (NaCl) which is table salt. Sodium chloride is just 40% sodium and 60% chloride.

week 26 : what have I been learning about this week? Plus the trials and tribulations of a Personal Trainer/Entrepreneur in training

Right let me update you on what has been going on in Abi’s world…week 26…

I didn’t get chance to return and do a proper round up of what went on last week as this week days have all just merged together and whizzed by so quickly! I remember it being exactly the same last year around this time, as I try and get things done ready for my own holiday as clients also want to increase intensity for their holidays!

I have had to turn a few of potential clients down in the past couple of weeks which i absolutely HATE doing. My schedule just doesn’t have enough hours in the day to fit everybody in, especially at certain busy times. I also feel personally that I would be doing these people a disservice  by taking on complete beginners and only being around for a couple of weeks before going away for three. As much I could introduce them to the gym and squeeze in a couple of sessions however it just didn’t feel morally right taking their money for such sessions. I think I have to stay true to myself and what I believe in, and that is that a quick fix will never work.

If you want to make a change, you have to be prepared to put in the work and see it as a long term solution rather than a quick fix.

I now have a waiting list for September which I never ever imagined I would need to have! You could say that business is going well for me right now! But not one to rest on my laurels, I am already planning the next phase….

My newsletters have been well received the past couple of weeks and I am really enjoying coming up with and writing content for them. If you would like to join the mailing list then click HERE and enter your details! I send out one a week every Sunday morning with exclusive content and updates!

Visiting London ticked off something on my #30B430 list, as well as going to Abbey Road. Things are being ticked off slowly and I do need to get on with some of them! I have just booked a photography course to do whilst in Venice and am super excited about that though!

abbey road

This week I have been enjoying the WATT Bike at the gym as my form of cardio. After walking so much in London my achilles and shins were quite sore so I needed some form of low impact cardio to do. I jumped on the bike after work to finish watching the Nadal match at Wimbledon thinking it would only be another 10 minutes….I was on for over half an hour! Great to be distracted whilst still working out. I have been aiming for 15-20km each time and even though it is tough, I have found that once I break that first 5km mark I am okay!

watt bike sprints

I did a sweaty workout inspired by my sisters friend Jonny Stephens on Friday afternoon. This seems to be a recurring theme on a Friday; I scroll through Instagram and see a workout which looks challenging and then just go for it! A couple of weeks ago you might remember me taking on one by Andy McKenzie. The workout was

2 minute rounds x 4

A1)Rower
A2)Watt Bike
A3)Cindy (5 inverted rows/10 press ups/15 squats)
A4)Sled Push

Give it a go if you are feeling up to being challenged!

cardio

I won’t lie, I have suffered with some body confidence issues this week. I am not as lean as I have been the previous couple of summers prior to holidays and putting on a bikini and it has got to me. I have been worrying and almost not looking forwards to putting one on for fear of being judged. All I can do now though is practise what I preach, knuckle down for these last 19 days prior to going in the hope of feeling a bit better come August 4th when I fly out.

Right, time to see what I have learnt in week 26.

9th: Pteronophobia is the fear of being tickled by feathers!

10th: During your lifetime, you will produce enough saliva to fill two swimming pools.

11th: 47 of the top 50 clips on Youtube are music videos.

12th: n 2015, more people were killed from injuries caused by taking a selfie than by shark attacks.

13th: John McEnroe is the only player to ever have been denied entry into Wimbledon in 1981 for his on court behaviour.

14th: Since 2000, one of the William’s sisters has won the Wimbledon title 12 times. Powerful.

15th: Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid athlete in the world right now. He receives $58 million salary and a further $38 million from endorsements!

See you next week!

week 25 : what have I been learning about this week? Plus the trials and tribulations of a Personal Trainer/Entrepreneur in training

Right let me update you on what has been going on in Abi’s world…week 25…

I am currently in London so this weeks update will only be what I have learnt and I will do a proper one when I can (probably on the train home later on today!!) It has been lovely to get away however I can feel myself getting a bit anxious at the amount of work which I will have to do on my return. It is less than 4 weeks until i go away and the list of things to do is growing by the hour!

learn something 25

2nd: There is a river in Peru where the temperature of the water reaches boiling point and will boil alive anything which falls in!

3rd: On average 7 Postmen are bitten by a dog every day!

4th: The Spanish Paralympic basketball team from 2000 had to hand back their medals because 10 of them didn’t have a disability.

5th: A formula 1 car changes gear 50 times quicker than a human eye can blink.

6th: Google receives 54,000 queries a second which equates to 90 billion per month.

7th: It costs the city of London £3.8million to clean up litter from the square mile.

8th: London Pride takes place every year on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the Stonewall riots of 1969.

I will no doubt update this post later on and fill you in properly on what I have been up to so stay tuned……

June 2017 favourites: What have I been loving this month?

One Sweet World – Ben and Jerry’s

ben and jerry's one sweet world review
I called into Asda on the way home from somewhere in the hope of picking up the new tub of Mars bar ice-cream that my sister had been raving about. No such luck. Instead of leaving empty handed I saw this flavour of Ben and Jerry’s which I haven’t been able to get hold of before. Coffee, salted caramel, marshmallow and chocolate pieces. YUM. I had relegated Ben and Jerry’s to second spot after Haagen Dazs recently, but I think this may have just reignited my love for the stuff. Definitely my new favourite Ben and Jerry’s flavour, and probably a good thing that I haven’t been able to find it in any of the supermarkets near me. I justified the purchase as research for my 30 ice cream flavours before I am 30 task!

Caramel Pecan ice cream – Perfect World

caramel pecan perfect world review
This is a more macro friendly ice cream alternative. Found in Tesco, this ice cream is gluten free, dairy free and no added sugar. I didn’t have much hope for it, as usually when the first ingredient on a tub of ice cream is water the texture and flavour isn’t all that good. This surprised me though and the flavour of caramel is really strong. Obviously not as creamy and luxurious as ‘real’ ice creams, but if you are wanted a lower calorie alternative then I think this is a good option. I found it in Tesco and it was on offer for £2 a tub I believe, I think you can get it in Holland and Barretts also.

Aldi filled peppers and spinach and cauliflower burgers.

Aldi vegetarian burgers
A past client had posted a photo of these on Instagram so I had to go and search them out for myself. I have found myself eating slightly less meat recently, not on purpose, it has just happened for some reason. I will usually have at least one day a week now when I don’t have any. These peppers are great. I found that I had to add a little extra feta cheese on top, as it was only a bit of a measly sprinkling when I opened the packet. Great as something different to have for dinner. You could replicate them easy enough and it is a recipe which I am going to have a go at doing myself soon. About 100 calories and I think I paid no more than £1.50.

The burgers were lovely as well. They had some indian spices in them so weren’t super boring or dry which I have found with other vegetarian burgers. Great if you are heading to a BBQ this ‘summer.’ I think these were about 150 calories each and a similar price to the filled peppers.

Shoe Dog – Phil Knight

shoe dog phil knight review
My sister gave me this book to read as she had really enjoyed it. It is the story of the development and growth of the company Nike. From the idea of Phil Knight to multi-billion dollar worldwide company. It is amazing. I honestly had no idea where Nike had come from or how fast it grew as a company to become the biggest sports brand in the world. It was so interesting to read about how they overcame adversity after adversity. Banks kicked them out for having no cashflow and being a risk, they were scammed by suppliers, a huge fight with the US government over millions of dollars of unpaid taxes. It almost seemed like it was one problem after another and a lot of companies would have just given up. But instead it was Phil Knight’s dream and he persisted, and it was certainly worth it. Such an inspiring read and I would highly recommend it to anybody, even if you are not interested in sport, the story is incredible. Another book to tick off my list! Do you have any recommendations?

Love Island
I have said on numerous occasions before that I simply don’t watch tv. I prefer to watch videos on youtube instead if I decide to watch something. However, I was told by quite a few friends that I had to watch Love Island this year, having never seen it before it has definitely become my guilty pleasure these past few weeks! I catch up with it the following day (9pm is past my bedtime!) usually when I am having my breakfast and lunch! Gabby and Marcel are my favourites to win, I used to love Blazin Squad! Yes i know it is rubbish, but it is just entertainment and gives me something to talk about with clients!haha!

What have you been loving in June 2017? Anything which you think I need to get my hands on? If so please let me know!

Love Abi xxxx
